The Writers Page: The Black Rose

The Black Rose
By Courtney Babchyck

I close my eyes against the empty silence
Searching for the time I once knew
But it is lost
Taken by the deceiver
And taken by you

For so long,
I cried in the dark
Begging for your presence
But you never came
For so long,
I prayed that once,
Just this once you would hear me
But you never did
For so long,
I had faith
Faith that you had finally changed,
Faith in every promise
So much that I turned them down
And shut the doors to the way out
The way I had begged so long for

But instead you let the red rose wilt
And the black rose came to bloom
