Wings and Wildflowers Festival
The Lake County Office of Economic Development & Tourism presents the inaugural birding and wildflower festival, to be held on Sept. 28-30 at Hickory Point Park in Tavares. The Wings and Wildflowers Festival will offer visitors an opportunity to fall in love with Lake County’s birds, wildflowers and natural areas.
City of Tavares Little Free Library
The City of Tavares is now the proud owner of Little Free Library #1798. After a ribbon cutting ceremony earlier in June and several articles in the local newspapers, the weatherproof library box located at The Reading Tree in Aseop's Park, 501 E. Caroline Street has seen a steady stream of users. There have been sightings of children and teens sitting under The Reading Tree enjoying books picked out of the library box.
A Science Lab on Wheels Lands on Mars this August!
Linda Goff, Youth Services Coordinator, was lucky enough to be one of 50 librarians invited to Kennedy Space Center last November to learn about Mars, NASA’s exploration of the plant and see the launch of Curiosity, NASA's newest Mars rover. This summer, in preparation for the landing of Curiosity on Mars in August, Linda will be presenting one-hour library programs for young people.
Local Authors Showcase
The Leesburg Public Library has issued a call for entries to the second annual program celebrating local authors and their books to be held on Saturday, October 13th from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
