New discoveries with ELC

Jordan Konicki

Here at East Lake County Library we have several new and exciting programs that are very popular. We have new clubs that have turned heads all over the county, such as ELC TRADEWARS and 365 Experimental. We continue to have story times every week. A butterfly garden that is going to spring life into the community. It’s hard not to get excited when you see and realize all the amazing new ideas that are taking place here at our library.

We believe very strongly in outreach and discovering exactly what the community is looking for nowadays that isn’t readily available anywhere else. Right now we provide three clubs for school age kids and teens. We have a science club that meets every other Wednesday called 365 Experimental. It is open for grades K-5. The club does all hands on fun and easy experiments geared towards all ages. Another is the K’NEX club which meets every last Saturday of the month. Unlike Legos or Lincoln Logs; K’NEX is not limited to certain buildings or creatures. With K’NEX if you can think it you can build it. The last club that has increased in popularity is ELC TRADEWARS. ELC TRADEWARS is the opportunity to test your skills at trading and battling all those trading cards you’ve collected over the years. It is open to all ages and all types of trading cards.

In June we begin digging into our summer reading program. We have several performers coming every Monday at 11 a.m. starting June 17th. We have several fun performers such as Jungle Jimmy, John Storms, Caring Canines and Jules Turcsanyi. We also will have fun crafts and activities every Thursday at 11 a.m. starting June 20th. Weekly prizes will be given to readers as well as a grand prize drawing at the end of the summer for our top readers. The only change in our normal programs will be 365 Experimental and K’NEX CLUB will be on temporary hiatus.
