Upcoming Programs and Events at Cooper Memorial Library

Cooper Memorial Library is hosting another great season of programming, with fabulous events to capture everyone’s tastes and interests. On that note, we proudly present our programs for April through June 2013, entitled “Spice Up Your Life”.

The Pastfinders Genealogy group meets on the second Thursday of the month from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in Room 108, on April 4th and May 9th. On Thursday, April 4th, the Pastfinders will present “Genealogy and the Indian Wars” with Jack Butler, a professional genealogist and member of the Florida State Genealogical Society, who will be our featured speaker for the program.

The CML Book Club meets on the third Tuesday of the month, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., in Room 221. Upcoming dates are April 16th, May 21st, and June 18th.

Opera@theLibrary continues its successful monthly programs in Room 108 B on the fourth Monday of the month from 1:45 to 5:00 p.m. with informative lectures and outstanding opera performances for the general public. Our April 22nd program will be Jules Massenet’s Thaïs, Rossini’s L’Italiana in Algeri on May 20th, and on June 24th we will present Leo Delibes’s Lakme.

Classical guitarist and local musician Joshua Englert will be offering free group guitar classes, so bring your guitar and join the fun. Classes are Saturdays on April 20th and May 18th, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., in Room 108 B. Ages 7 to adult are invited to attend.

The 2nd annual Battle of the Bands will be held on Saturday, April 6th, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., outside on the lawn of the library building. This event is for bands with members aged 13 – 18 years old. Everyone is invited to attend this fun event. The “Battle” will take place outside on the lawn with an outdoor stage for a true concert feel. First Place wins $250., Second Place wins $125., and Third Place wins $75.

For Money Smart Week in April, we have Julie England, who will explain how to create a spending plan that we can live with. Join her on Tuesday, April 23rd, from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m., in Room 108 A.

The Clermont Garden Club will be presenting “A Country Music Garden”, a Flower and Horticulture Show, on Thursday, April 11th, from 1:30 to 7:00 p.m., and Friday, April 12th, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The floral exhibits will be on display at the library in Room 108. This event is open to the public and free of charge.
