Literacy Program offers a variety of opportunities for volunteers!

Erika L. Greene

Have you been looking for a volunteer opportunity but not finding the right one?  Have you considered volunteering for the Literacy Program but just weren't sure you had what it takes to be a tutor?  Do you want to help someone achieve their literacy goals and use your skills and interests?  If you answered 'yes' to these questions this might be just what you have been looking for!

The Literacy Program is very busy - recruiting and training new volunteers; enrolling new learners; developing curriculum; creating workshops & mini courses; and trying to meet the diverse needs of the learners.  What does that mean to you, a potential volunteer?  It means we have a variety of opportunities for you to make a difference!  Consider these volunteer positions: tutor; computer lab assistant; learning lab assistant; program assistant; learner orientation tutor; mini course/workshop facilitator; and tutor mentor.

As the Literacy Program continues to grow, we need volunteers to help us make it happen!  If you would like to learn more about how you can become part of the Literacy Team, please contact Erika at or 352-253-6183.  I would love to talk to you about your skills and how they can help us continue to provide a dynamic program.

Lake County Volunteer Services offers the opportunity for citizens to use their knowledge, vigor, expertise and desire to benefit Lake County and themselves through volunteering. For additional opportunities in a variety of departments, call 352- 343-9596 or email
