Literacy Contacts...they make it happen

They are at every County Library...
Erika L. Greene

Did you know that every LCLS Library has a Literacy Contact working to make the Adult Literacy Program a success? I am so proud of the team. They are amazing and go above and beyond to ensure that adult learners and volunteer tutors have what they need to do the difficult work of learning English.

The Literacy Contact has many duties as they might also be Reference Librarians, Youth Services Librarians, Branch Managers, or Library Directors! As the Literacy Contact, though, they schedule meeting space; arrange learner orientations; provide copies of materials; assist the tutor as they locate resources; act as the liaison between Adult Literacy and the Library staff; recruit tutors and adult learners; market and publicize the program within the Library and community; and work with me to make the Adult Literacy Program the success it is!

Without this team, we would not be able to provide a seamless, organized, and effective literacy program to more than 130 volunteer tutors and 340 adult learners located in 15 Libraries throughout the county. Let me introduce the team to you!
