Tavares Public Library Welcomes the New Year

The Tavares Public Library has several exciting events and interesting way to get involved in the New Year.

January 4th Wanted: Voting members to elect new officers!  Do you want to assist your library?  Are you interested in holding an office? The Friends of the Library Business Meeting and election of new officers will be held on Monday from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Library Conference Room. New officers will meet from 5 to 5:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Call President Sylvia Sproul for nominations at (352) 343-3805

January 6th: “Plant Your Spring Garden” will be the topic of guest speaker University of Florida, Lake County Residential Horticulture Agent, Charles Fedunak. Mr. Fedunak specializes in educational programs on lawns, gardens and Florida friendly landscaping. He will be at the TRA Room, 100 E Caroline Street at 3:00 p.m. Inquire in the library for exact information.

January 31s: “Caribbean Cultures Series” The program will feature a Peruvian Dance demonstration featuring Gladys Orihuela. Participants will learn to dance the Cha-Cha with demonstration and instruction from Charles and Joanne Bolly of Forever Ballroom. Free family fun will take place at the Tavares Civic Center at 3 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

February 21st: Have tea with feminist Alice Paul being portrayed by Laurie Nienhaus. Alice Paul was the architect of some of the most outstanding political achievements on behalf of women in the 20th century. Few individuals have had as much impact on American history as has Ms. Paul. The tea will be held at 3 p.m. in the Tavares Civic Center for a small fee of $5.00

March 17th: Festival of Reading program will include three young adult authors, Victor Digenti, Author of the “Windrusher series”, Mc Finotti, author of “The Treasure of Amelia Island”, and Eric Reinhold, author of the “Ryan Watters series at 3 p.m. at the Tavares Civic Center.

March 18th: Festival of Reading Writing Workshop with Author Victor Di Genti will take place at Tavares City Hall in City Council Chambers at 7 p.m.
