October is Bat Month in Howey

Marianne Beck Memorial Library
Diane Merchant

October is Bat Month at the Marianne Beck Memorial Library at Howey-in-the-Hills. (We are not talking baseball bats; we are talking black bats that fly at night.) The festivities will begin October 1; everyone is invited to help decorate the library, turning it into our very own bat cave. The month’s activities will culminate on October 28 with S’Mores and Scary Stories around the Campfire. All of the bat activities in October will begin at 4:00 p.m. and will last 45 minutes to one hour. The activities are geared for 6-12 year-olds, but the entire family is welcome.

The month’s calendar is as follows:
October 1 4:00 p.m. Decorate the Library
October 5 4:00 p.m. Bat Bones and Spider Stew served
with Monster Milk Shakes
October 12 4:00 p.m. Bat Birthday Bash
