Leesburg Library Mourns Adult Services Librarian

Cathy Mahoney, Colleague and Friend

It is with great sadness that staff at Leesburg Public Library report the passing of Cathy Mahoney on May 30, 2009; she was our colleague and good friend to all. Cathy worked at the Leesburg Public Library for over 10 years; first as the Circulation Supervisor and then as one of the Adult Services librarians. Cathy had previously been the Director of the Fruitland Park Library and worked in libraries in Michigan before moving to Florida. Cathy was known by many of our patrons because of her helpful ways. She was a leader among the staff, innovative when it came to developing programs and always on top of the newest trends in publishing for her areas of responsibility. The Friends of the Leesburg Public Library counted on Cathy’s help with donations to the Memorial Fund. Cathy was the one that made contact with families and saw to it that the funds were used according to their wishes. How appropriate that Cathy’s family have established the Cathy Mahoney Memorial at the library. Cathy is missed by all of the staff and many other colleagues and patrons throughout Lake County.
