Build It and They Will Come!

Growth Continues at Cagan Crossings Community Library
Katherine Spurgeon, Regional Branch Manager

Since our new library opened in February, we have registered over 4,000 new library patrons. Compared to 2007 figures, monthly circulation has averaged a 65% increase as well. In addition, summer activities are going strong! Over 300 children are registered for the Summer Reading Program, and attendance at the special programs has been over 75 per event. Once this program ends on July 31st, the library will be preparing for the Star Wars Extravaganza on Friday and Saturday, August 1st and 2nd. There will be a Star Wars movie marathon on Friday, starting at 10 a.m. On Saturday, the library will be hosting members from the 501st Legion [in full Star Wars costumes] from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We will also be showing more Star Wars movies and conducting a Star Wars trivia game.

For more information about this very special event, please call the library at 352-243-1840. The community has welcomed our new facility with open arms, and we are looking forward to offering great adult and children’s programs throughout the year. Staffing has been a major concern since we are operating with just one more person than we had previously; however, we should be adding 2 new people within the next couple of months.
