The Friends of the Leesburg Public Library, a nonprofit organization, is starting a new membership program to raise money for the library. The Friends organization has been in existance in the City for over 50 years and they've done some great things. The library benefited greatly with over $800,000 worth of enhancements to the new building through their efforts. With such a huge project completed, they could just sit back on their laurels and enjoy the praises. They could put all their efforts into running their own bookstore located at the library entance. With finances the way they are, however, the Friends' support is needed as much now as ever to help the library staff to continue to provide excellent programs and promotions within a reduced budget. In an effort to increase awareness, the Friends want to increase membership.
The existing starter memberships continue to be $2 for students and $10 for non-students for one calendar year. With that membership level, you are on the mailing list to receive the newsletter and any other announcements to come out of the organization. Now, however, there are some new and different levels of membership to increase the funding for the library and provide the cardholder new and exciting perks. The $25 Reader Level membership gives the recipient a discount card called the "Check Out Leesburg" card. This card gives members discounts at 32 local businesses, including restaurants, spas, florists and others. The card will pay for itself and then some for those who shop and dine in and around the City.
There are a few other membership levels too with such clever names as: Editor, Novelist, Author, Publisher, Patron and Benefactor. Each of these levels entitles the member to an additional feature of the membership including tribute cards, book donations, sponsorship of a program, a memorial brick or tile. Obtaining membership is easy, just pick up the brochure at the library and turn it in at the desk; you will immediately receive your discount card and other level features.
