Authors' Writing Workshop

A workshop especially for new or beginning authors will be held in the Leesburg Public Library on Saturday, December 1st with sessions at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. This free program is a cooperative effort of the Lake County Library System, Leesburg Public Library and the Friends of the Leesburg Library.

10 a.m. Joan P. West, author, publisher, and former agent will share publishing options from her book An Agent Speaks: A Primer for Unpublished Writers. Ms. West wrote this book as a result of her experiences as an agent, when the great majority of submissions received from authors wanting to become published were completely unprofessional. The goal of this workshop is to assist unpublished writers in uncovering the secrets of having an agent/editor consider their submissions. Not being familiar with these "secrets" is almost as much of an obstacle as poor writing.

1 p.m. Dr. Darlin Neal, award winning author and UCF Assistant Professor, will conduct a session on Inhabiting Story: Story Starters. Dr. Neal will take the writer through a series of exercises that present a way of telling an ordinarily story and making it spellbinding. She will discuss the nature of good narratives and good storytelling. If you fully inhabit a story, it feels as if you live there that you have entered another world, another life. Writers will leave either with a story opening or a piece of flash fiction, and ideas on what it means to inhabit story.

You do not need to register. For additional information please call 352-728-9790 ext. 0.
