The Leesburg Public Library brings you the opportunity to explore one of the battlefields of World War II on Tuesday, November 13th and meet some of the brave men who were there. Beginning at 2:00 pm, the DVD The Americans on D-Day will be shown, followed by veteran testimonies and a question and answer session. The film is part of The American Road to Victory trilogy, which will be featured on public television stations nationwide this year.
Heidi Mehltretter, Executive Director for Livingbattlefield.org, said, “There is something magical that happens when veterans watch these films and then share their personal memories with the audience. No one leaves this experience untouched.”
This series is filmed in the exact locations and weather conditions that existed when the actions took place. A review by the American Legion described the series as, “the next best thing to being there.”
At a time when veterans of World War II are passing at an alarming rate, The American Road to Victory trilogy constitutes an important record of wartime memories. In addition, the filmmakers continue to engage new viewers and report new stories on World War II veterans through their blog, livingbattlefield.blogspot.com.
